IN loving memory - Inge Bremer-Trueman

We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of Inge Bremer-Trueman on April 4, 2024.

Inge loved the Alexandra Writers Centre where she was a dedicated volunteer and advocate from 2005 until our move from Inglewood in late 2016. When she was passionate about something, you knew it. Good or bad. She loved writing, hated the publishing process, loved babies and absolutely abhorred Alberta winter. She and a crew of former AWCS members formed the Crabapple Mews Collective, where she went on to publish three books of fiction. Even though she became less active with the AWCS in later years, she remained a dedicated member until 2020.

If you knew her, remember her fondly, keep writing and raise a glass of your drink of choice and share a memory of Inge in the comments.

If you didn’t, raise a glass anyway and buy her books. Even though she is gone, Inge’s words will live on, forever.

I'll never forget the AWCS Christmas Party in 2008. My daughter was only a few months old and I'd been away from the organization for a little while so attended to catch up with everyone. The moment I walked in, Inge swooped in and stole my baby from me and happily cooed and rocked and cuddled her for nearly the entire party. She had such a warm heart and I am so terribly devastated about this news.

A nice memory, Robin, that that is very Inge. She often talked of her grandchildren and enjoyed being involved in their lives. I'm so sorry to hear this news.

I am saddened to hear of Inge's passing. She and I were involved in writing activities for many years at the Alexandra Writers Centre and helping to organize the annual Writing in the Works reading event. I enjoyed her down to earth manner and strong opinions - dare I say blunt? Inge's stories have a strong voice and I encourage people to read or re-read her books. My thoughts are with her family.

Inge and Strawberry Creek go inseparably together in my memory, As a newbie to AWCS, I wanted the retreat to be writing and connecting time, and Inge smoothed the way for a good balance of both. We kept in touch as she wrote less and played with grandchildren more, another good balance for her. I'll miss her, thanks for letting us know.

What a sad thing to learn that dear Inge has died. We both lived up in the far NW of the city, and would meet for coffee at Starbucks in Crowfoot to discuss the mundane and the infuriating. Our mutual love of babies resulted in sharing delightful anecdotes of the littles in our lives, and her grandkids gave her so much joy. I loved Inge's gruff passion - whether it be political or meteorological, Inge's opinion was firm. And she gave the warmest hugs. She was so loved and will be missed by so many. I hope she's soaring above the snow clouds in an endlessly warm and sunny sky.

Inge was with me when I first started going to AWCS. Her encouragement was relentless, her talent inspiring, her presence noticeable, and her smile infectious. Thank you for everything, Inge. I raise my Crown Royal and my pen to you.
