The AWCS Community includes writing groups, writer roundtables, and more. These community drop-in programs offer flexible and accessible opportunities for writers to engage with our community, develop their craft, and find inspiration. These programs are designed to accommodate writers with busy schedules or those looking for a more casual way to explore their creativity.

WRITE-INS

Dedicated time and space for writers to work on their projects together. Typically held in person or online, write-ins offer a supportive environment where writers can focus on their writing goals. ​

ABlIT BOOK CLUB

We celebrate Alberta authors whether they were born here or have moved here. Membership in the club is free and it's a great opportunity to discuss books from a writer's point of view. ​

WRITING GROUPS

Writing groups, also known as writing circles or meet-ups, are communities of writers who come together to share their work, provide feedback, and offer support and encouragement to one another. ​

many voices contest

The Many Voices Monthly Writing Contest showcases the wonderful talent within our member community. All members are invited to submit to our monthly writing contest. The winning entry will be published in the Member Connections newsletter.​

Lit Lunch / Lit Night

Lit Lunches and Lit Nights are free literary events for AWCS members, featuring workshops or lectures with talented authors, writers, and speakers.

The AWCS has partnered with the Writers Guild of Alberta to co-host a monthly event focused on providing a space for the Calgary literary community to network and mingle.

Our highly popular monthly open mic night. Share your words while surrounded by walls of books in Calgary, Cochrane, Lethbridge, and Edmonton. We create a safe space for writers of all genres to share their work.
