ABOUT OUR EDITING SERVICES

Before hiring an editor you should know exactly what kind of editing you want or need to make your manuscript the best it can be. Whether you are planning to self-publish or want your manuscript as clean as can be before submitting to publishers or agents it's always worth having another set of eyes on your work. 

No two editing experiences will be the same. You have different experiences and needs for your manuscript. 

Please note, this service is designed specifically with the longer work in mind: novellas, short story collections, memoirs, and novels. Occasionally, we can accommodate the poetry manuscript.

​SUBSTANTIVE Editing

For detailed feedback with manuscript comments and suggestions. This is an in-depth edit that will point out strengths and weaknesses, focusing on the overall structure, content and flow of the manuscript. You will get a comprehensive review on such areas as character development, setting, plot, structure, dialogue, and more. This level of editing does not address mechanical needs.

LINE EDITING/
​COPYEDITING

 When you want someone to go through and clean up your manuscript, fixing sentence structure, readability, flow, word choice, grammar, punctuation and more. This level of editing will look for consistency, clarity and accuracy of language by checking spelling, grammar, and punctuation. This might come after a developmental edit has been completed.

PROOFREADING

Hire a proofreader when your manuscript is at the ready to submit stage to catch any last minute typos such as misspellings or missed words, minor punctuation fixes, line spacing, etc. This is a careful, line by line read.

The Alexandra Writers Centre Society (AWCS) is an organization that proudly supports creative writers.  We are not currently accepting manuscripts that are generated by AI. If we believe that a manuscript is AI generated we will return all fees with the exception of the non-refundable set up fee.
