IN PERSON Introduction to Poetry
8 Weeks | Tuesdays | Begins September 24, 2024 | 7PM-9PM
Instructor: Victoria Bailey
MEMBER PRICE: $300.00
NON-MEMBER PRICE: $400.00
Do you consider yourself a poetry writer newbie? Do you want to write poetry but unsure where to start? Have you started writing poetry but unsure if your texts are “really poems”? Are you curious about exploring poetry writing process and poetic forms further? Are you intimidated about writing poetry altogether? Then this class is for you. During this eight-week course we will explore, examine and employ a wide range of poetry and poetic styles. Participants will develop their critical poetry reading, and creative poetry writing, skills. Ultimately, this course aims to create a safe space for writers to discuss and share poetry, create and share (or not, your choice) their poems (at any stage of development), and to provide and receive positive poetry feedback.
This class takes place in person at the Alexandra Writers’ Centre in Calgary.
Victoria Bailey has a Creative Writing PhD by practice. She has a graduate certificate in Creative Writing, as well as certificates in Desktop Publishing and Technical Writing. Her writing has been included in a wide variety of anthologies, magazines and journals. She has taught in post-secondary settings and provided feedback on writing in a variety of capacities. She is also editor of the upcoming poetry collection, A Mother(hood)fucking Arsenal of Poetry from Demeter Press.
