Storytelling applied to film or TV is one of the most exciting mediums to explore. This multi-week intensive course is an interactive and engaging beginner’s guide for structuring and writing a feature-length film script, including plotting, character development, dialogue, and more. Classic and modern film will be studied throughout in order to gain insight into best practices and common mistakes to avoid. Attendees are encouraged to write a feature script throughout this course with feedback provided by the instructor and fellow students.
This class is an interactive online workshop using Zoom.
Andrew Buckley is a film school-educated writer, which means he’s spent most of his life with no money and a high opinion about bad movies. Around the turn of the century he attended the Vancouver Film School’s Writing for Film and Television program, graduating with excellence. Today, he’s a traditionally and self-published novelist, a comic book writer, screenwriter, filmmaker, podcaster, teacher, and presenter.
For over 20 years, he’s worked in the dreaded world of marketing as a content creator, copywriter, and strategist for large national and international brands. He actively develops curriculum and teaches marketing, social media, and communication theory at two national private colleges.
As a writer, Andrew favors playing in the fantasy and paranormal sandboxes and is drawn to writing with a humorous and satirical slant despite being asked politely on numerous occasions to ‘please stop doing that’.
As the co-founder and lead instructor at Wordsmith Academy, Andrew speaks to thousands of students each year about storytelling and writing through the delivery of interactive and engaging workshops and presentations at schools, colleges, writing conferences, teachers conferences, and comic cons at an international level.
We are a community that thrives on support and encouragement. Based on the philosophy of "no writer left behind", the J.
