Spoken Word & Slam Poetry for Beginners (Teacher's Edition)
Spoken Word & Slam Poetry for Beginners (Teachers' Edition)
(as seen at CCTC 2024)
This session will be an exploration of how to teach poetry to junior high and high school students in a way that they will find fun — using slam poetry! Participants will learn about how to write and perform spoken word and slam poetry, see examples of student performances, and discuss techniques for incorporating spoken word into poetry units in a way that will engage students and leave them with a lasting love for the craft. We will also explore how students (and teachers!) can make use of spoken word as a way to tell their own stories and learn to express themselves in unique and creative ways.
1) Find at least five total participants up to twenty participants and let us know when and where you would like to meet - your place or ours (1721 - 29 Ave SE, unit 460), online or in person. We are very flexible.
Cost for each instructor: $37.50 For AWCS Members | $50.00 for non-members
2) For groups over twenty, to as many as you like, the cost is $1500 for the group OR use the per-person individual payment. Whatever works best for you and your team. Our writing centre is not large, so if you have a group that exceeds 25, there may be an additional charge if we need to rent space to accommodate your numbers. That said, if we come to you, there is no extra charge from our end.
