Writing in the Air – (K-3) Can writers write without a pencil? This program has been specifically designed for young writers.
Write Yourself – Journaling – (Grades 3-9) Writing every day is important for acquiring skills. Students in all elementary grades will explore just how fun a journal can be so that they will become excited about class journal writing time. This can be combined with the grade 9 PAT personal narrative prep.
Poetry Fun! – (Grades 2-9) “Poetry is boring!” Well, not anymore. In this session, students will learn to write their own poetry while exploring all kinds of wordplay and styles of poetry.
Legends – Trickster Edition – (Grades 4-9) Stories have always been used to teach and entertain young listeners and none of the characters in these stories are more popular than the tricksters. It's a great way to explore legends and their significance before creating one of your own.
Your Writing Toolbox – (Grades 3-9) Get all the tools to help you write your story all the way from planning to execution. Excellent to prep students for the grade 6 PATs.
A Dungeons and Dragons Epic Adventure – (Grades 5-12) Travel as a character on a journey through an Epic tale while learning world building, description, and character development to create a plot arc worthy of any D&D campaign.
Write your own class or school play (All grades) Work together to learn how to craft a story arc and create a great play script you can act out. (week-long residency)
Analysing and Writing Poetry - (Grades 6-12) Poetry can be amazing and by learning to understand some really great poetry, students can then go on to write their own.
ELA PAT prep (Grade 6 or 9) - Get your students ready for the written component of their ELA PATs in a fun and engaging way!
Intro to Essays – (Grade 7-9) Students will learn how to identify the five main types five paragraph essays, how to plan them (with some great handouts for schools to keep), and some great tips on research, writing, and citing.
Teacher Professional Development - Calling all humanities teachers, be entertained while learning skills to improve your own writing ability that you can pass on to your students. Maybe you'll have that next great novel or memoir!
Making Writing Fun (Teacher PD) - The AWCS Youth program specializes in making learning language and writing fun and engaging while teaching core skills in ways that kids love. Want to know how to incorporate these into your classroom? Book this session!
