About When words collide
Held in Calgary, Alberta, every August, When Words Collide is a festival for writers and readers, artists, and publishers of commercial and literary fiction, including genre, YA, children's books, poetry, and more more.
We aim to support writers in the craft and business of writing, exploring all avenues of the writing process, publishing and storytelling, while building a strong literary community, and to bring local writers - Alberta and Canada - to the attention of book lovers.
We hold a strong commitment to IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access) and while we are not there yet, we continue to work hard everyday to make the world a better, safer and more open place for individuals of all backgrounds, experiences, sexual orientation, gender identity, race, ethnicity, disability, education, citizenship and religion to share their stories.
You may have heard the news, that 2023 is the last year of When Words Collide. When Words Collide has become a steadfast, respected event in our city every year, something the writing community looks forward to and we couldn't let it go.
The Alexandra Writers Centre has big shoes to fill, but along with support from the broader literary community, we are ready for the challenge. It might have slightly different feel, but it will have the same great energy, the same excitement, the same great panels and events and guest speakers. We are excited for Volume Two and hope you will come along for the ride with us.
