Creative Writing Basics Level One will introduce students to the basics of character, plot, dialogue and setting through discussion, free fall writing, practical writing exercises and mutual feedback. Students will learn about conflict, exposition, dramatic arc, world building and how to use literary devices in creative writing. This is a class for beginners who are setting out on their creative writing journey as well as writers wishing to refresh their skills.
This class takes place in person at the Alexandra Writers’ Centre in Calgary.
Meghan Victoria grew up feral in the wilds of Labrador, raised on East Coast folklore, uncanny magic, and stories that left her both hungry and haunted. She now lives in Calgary, Alberta, with her husband and fat cat, Nancy. Her short fiction has been featured by a variety of publishers, including Radical Bookshop & Press, the Antigonish Review, Prairie Soul Press, and Coffin Hop Press. Meghan is also the founder of Gilded Experiences, a fantasy events company that blends immersive storytelling, community, and a touch of chaos in its mission to weave magic into the world, one experience at a time.
