ONLINE - Craft, Critique and The Gap: Using Empathy to Write Better Fiction
8 weeks | Tuesdays | Begins February 3, 2026
1pm-3pm PT | 2pm-4pm MT | 3pm-5pm CT | 4pm-6pm ET | 5pm-7pm AT
Instructor: Felix Da Costa Gomez
MEMBER PRICE: $320.00
NON-MEMBER PRICE: $425.00
During this class, students will learn valuable craft techniques that they will implement into their own short fiction pieces such as The Gap and how it is crucial to writing compelling characters. Instead of being tossed directly into a workshop environment, the method of workshopping will be detailed and explained, so students have a well-rounded understanding of what they are getting into. Moving away from Iowa style workshopping that upholds the critic rather than the writer, this workshop is focused on fostering both skill sets to ensure students leave the course with a well-rounded arsenal. Lecture time will be given to unpacking craft methods and theory, giving students the tools necessary to thrive and contribute to a workshop environment in which both the writer and audience are appreciated and cared for. The workshop portion of the course will be largely writer focused. The writer will be asked to prepare a series of questions to ask their workshop audience, ensuring that the writer is getting what they need, and the workshop audience will be asked to respond accordingly. The writer will also be given the opportunity to allow general comments and feedback.
This class takes place ONLINE using Zoom
