You've heard of Flash Fiction. Now think Flash Non Fiction (NF). This course will cover elements of writing riveting true stories between 100 and 1000 words. You'll read one great flash NF story each week; learn how to analyze it; then use similar techniques to write your own stories. There will be lots of experimentation! Each class will include market information where to submit your short NF stories.
This is an interactive online class using the Zoom web platform.
Sandra Phinney’s stories have been published in over 70 publications including Nature Canada, Canadian Geographic, and the Toronto Star. She’s a regular contributor to JourneyWoman.com.
Although Sandra continues to pen a story or two for magazines and newspapers, she’s now focusing on writing books. Her fourth and latest book was a travel memoir for Pottersfield Press titled Waking Up In My Own Backyard—Explorations in Southwest Nova Scotia. Currently, she has a contract with Pottersfield Press to publish a book of personal essays, Coming Home. She also has three other non-fiction books in the works.
Sandra delivers writing workshops throughout Atlantic Canada and Ontario on topics ranging from starting a freelance business to narrative, memoir, and travel writing. In 2021, she was the Literary Artist-In-Residence for four weeks at the Joggins Fossil Cliffs UNESCO site. She just completed a contract (Spring 2024) with the Writers’ Federation of Nova Scotia as a mentor in the Alistair MacLeod Mentorship Program.
