The Young Journalist Program, instructed by Patti Edgar, a journalism professor at Mount Royal University, is a great place for youth interested in having their voice heard. Not only does the Young Journalist Program give youth a leg up on their future university education when it comes to journalism, writing, and research, but they also gain experience reporting for Zed News YYC – their own online news site. There, these young journalists create videos, podcasts, and articles on topics they choose based on their interests. They write both independently and collectively and learn about the ethics of journalism, terminology, and the nuts and bolts of putting together a great story.
