Meaningful impact for your dollars.
This past year we awarded nearly $8500 to individuals to become a member, take a program, develop their voice, find community. Funds went to single parents, individuals looking for healing after grief and trauma, emerging writers in need of additional support, youth from low income families in need of tutoring or a place to share their creative interests, newcomers, individuals on AISH, students and so much more.
As the cost of living increases, so does the need for support services.
Consider a contribution to the J. Michael Fay Subsidy Program and see meaningful impact through the stories and connections our community brings.
- $150 - 2 memberships + gives access to free programming to build community and find peer support.
- $250 - 2 seats in a workshop or a weekly class
- $500 - 2 seats in a weekly class or a youth program for a year
- $1000 - a seat in the year-long manuscript class, a manuscript review or editing services
- $2500 - a seat in the Author Development Program
J. Michael Fay founded the Alexandra Writers Centre Society in 1981. What started as a small group of writers teaching and learning together has now grown into a powerful network of writers, instructors, storytellers and creatives.
We are a community that thrives on support and encouragement.
Michael passed away in June 2020. Part of his legacy is this gift to anyone who needs it.
Whether you are dealing with trauma, ready to explore a new avenue of creative expression, or delving into a long-loved passion for the literary arts we believe art should be accessible to everyone. Based on the philosophy of “no writer left behind”, the J. Michael Fay Subsidy Program is available to anyone who finds themselves in financial need but really wants or needs to participate in one of our programs or classes.

2018/19 - $3550 - to 18 individuals
2019/20 - $6815 - to 35 individuals
2020/21 - $2345 - to 12 individuals
2021/22 - $3372.50 - to 17 individuals
2022/23 - $3200.00 to 15 individuals
2023/24 - $4260.00 to 21 individuals.
2024/25 - $8500.00 to 23 individuals
The Alexandra Writers Centre is a federally registered charity, 119211852RR00001. Any donations over $10 are eligible for a tax deductible donation receipt.
