Enjoy an afternoon of inspiration and adventure with artist and storyteller Naomi Steinberg as she reads from her book: Goosefeather – Once Upon a Cartographic Adventure. www.goosefeather.ca
Goosefeather is a remarkable travelogue and memoir, that chronicles Steinberg’s 382 day journey, covering 55, 965 kilometres around the world by road and rail, land and sea (without air travel), performing a playful and profound one-woman show that questions the very nature of modern connection.
Beautifully written, Steinberg proves her credentials as an engaging storyteller, bringing to life the red clay of rural France, the wild green of California, the winding rice fields of Japan – and sharing the local stories that help each culture make sense of the place that shapes them. The result is an immersive, nuanced reimagining of geographies both familiar and foreign, that will invite you to seek out new stories in even the most familiar spaces.
Going from “stage to page” - taking 20 year’s experience as a teller of traditional tales, with rhythm and gesture, breath, eye-contact, and presence - wasn’t easy. In this session we will explore how oral storytelling can support creativity, particular the literary arts.
Naomi was born on Canada's supernatural Westcoast in Coast Salish territory. Of French and Jewish descent, she has performed traditional folk stories, fairy tales and brought community-based art projects to life since 2001. www.naomisteinberg.ca
This program takes place in person at the Alexandra Writers’ Centre (AWCS), on the 4th floor of cSpace Marda Loop (map).
