Planning to Execution - Book Reports G7-9 Booking Form
Have your students give the world their opinions in a handy and impressive book report.
Planning to Execution — Book Reports has been designed for students in Grades 7-9
Students will discover:
Students will learn how to interpret the assignment given to them and gain the ability to break it down into parts which are useful as planning points for their book report. From there they will understand how various aspects of word choice, communication, editing, and more go into a stellar book report. Finally, the students will explore the wider world of book reviews in magazines and blogs, learning what it takes to be a non-fiction reviewer.
Students will not be using a book as we go through this. Rather they will be given resources (such as a blank form to fill in their plan for their book report) which can be used for book report assignments in class and in the future. All of this learning will be on books in general and their features - such as theme, character, protagonist, antagonist, world, prominent issues, plot points, turning points, climax, and change of characters or world.
Outcomes:
- Methods for students to understand the assignment given to them - how to understand the rubric and either follow or create a checklist.
- How to plan a five-paragraph essay.
- Methods for students to analyze important aspects of a book and communicate what they learned.
- How to offer a review, and opinions in a book report.
- Writing and editing for clarity.
- Understanding what one can do with book report essays beyond school assignments.
