Tired of your students exclaiming, “Poetry is boring!”?


Poetry Fun has been designed for students in Grades 3-4.


Help your students understand and love poetry.

Students will discover how to write their own poetry while exploring all kinds of wordplay and styles, using these as a jumping-off point to learn and explore literary terms, vocabulary, and descriptive expression. Depending on the amount of time booked, poetry explored can include:

  • Concrete poetry
  • Senses and Emotions poetry
  • Collaborative poetry
  • Spoken Word and Slam poetry
  • Structured Rule-Based Poetry (ie. Limerick, Haiku/Tanka, Acrostic)


Outcomes:

Students will

  • learn and utilize literary terms
  • understand the history and significance of different styles of poetry through examples and analysis
  • practice descriptive expression and wordplay


Curriculum Touch Points: 

Grades 3-4

  • Learn to both read and write different poetic structures and types of poems,
  • Explore and use figurative language, personal experiences, knowledge, and senses.
  • Practice using writing conventions to effectively present both written and orally.
  • Practice being a good audience member, as well as give and receive feedback.
  • Think critically about the creative process including why authors write, their writing processes, and their audiences.


Cost for schools

This program is best taught as a single session or half-day program. Multiple classes can experience this workshop over a day.

  • $350.00 a session (60-90 minutes)
  • $650.00 half-day session (morning or afternoon)
  • $1200.00 for a full day

For example: For the single full-day fee, you can book two single sessions in the morning and a half-day session in the afternoon.
