Do you want to test your story’s effectiveness?
This course will help writers evaluate and refine their stories by identifying and analyzing the core elements of a story that make successful books and resonate with young readers.
We will examine the five core elements of your story: the theme, the characters, plot, the voice and tone and lastly the emotional impact. References will be made of books like Charlotte’s Web, Hunger Games, Harry Potter Series, the Alina series—Alina in a Pinch & Alina in the Deep.
This class will take place in person at the Alexandra Writers Centre Society
Shenaaz Nanji is an award-winning author of 14 books for children in Calgary. She thinks of herself as a squid who lives in the sea but surfaces occasionally to read or write. She holds an MFA in Writing from Vermont College and has presented to schools & libraries across Canada and USA. She has been on the jury for Canada Council of Arts & Writers Union & Writers Guild of Alberta. She believes that diversity of cultures is strength and that words have power to change lives.
