Instructor: Tawny Stokes

Currently one of the hottest new genres in the book world, Romantasy combines elements of fantasy (either high or low) with romance. Romantasy differs from other fantasy categories in that the integral role the romance plays in the plot. It is a central element to the story, contributing to most of the conflict and plot events. While the genre has roots in the classic Fantasy genre, Romantasy offers a fresh perspective with a female protagonist whose power is an inherent aspect to the story arc. With the huge popularity of books like A Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J Mass, and Rebecca Yarros’, book Fourth Wing, it has opened doors for new authors with new stories to tell with a hungry readership eager to devour every single one.
In this course, you will learn how to weave words into a Romantasy world that readers will wish for. Here is a breakdown of what you will learn in each class.
1. researching and knowing the market
2. choosing your mythos and building your world (2 classes)
3. creating rich complex characters that make an impact
4. striking the perfect balance between the romance and fantasy elements
5. creating a binge worthy book and series
This class takes place IN PERSON at the Alexandra Writers Centre Society.
