IN PERSON It's Bleak to Me: A Noir and Horror Workshop
4 Weeks | Mondays | Begins February 24, 2025 | 7PM-9PM
Instructor: Niall Howell
MEMBER PRICE: $150.00
NON-MEMBER PRICE: $200.00
For beginner and intermediate writers with a work of fiction in progress or in planning stages.
There’s something compelling about a good downward spiral. The experience of reading desperate characters grappling with, and sometimes embracing, corrupt and evil forces can be anxiety-inducing, but at the same time strangely cathartic. This four-week workshop will focus on bleak or dark narratives, focusing on noir and horror fiction. We will discuss the crafting of immoral, amoral, and morally ambiguous protagonists navigating corrupt worlds, while examining the ways that tropes can be utilized, subverted, and, in many cases, outright ignored to create a compelling piece of genre fiction. This class will be a blend of lecture and discussion, and attendees will have the opportunity to workshop a work-in-progress with the group.
This class takes place IN PERSON at the Alexandra Writers Centre Society.
