Ancient Greece, World War II, or 1960s Los Angeles. How does the author bring historical fiction to life? In this six-week-workshop, we will take an in-depth look at crafting realistic and believable works of historical fiction by examining dialogue, setting, character development, and sensory details. We will also discuss the importance of research and understanding historical contexts combined with readings from authors such as Ken Follett, Kate Quinn, Colson Whitehead, and Chloe Gong. Participants will workshop an existing novel idea and should be prepared to read others’ work.
This class takes place in person at the Alexandra Writers’ Centre in Calgary.
