Sandra SG Wong (she/her) writes fiction across genres as a hybrid indie/trad author. The cross-genre Lola Starke novels and Crescent City short stories have garnered Crime Writers of Canada Awards of Excellence finalist nominations. The bestselling standalone thriller, IN THE DARK WE FORGET, was an Anthony Award finalist. In addition to being a speaker and mentor, Sandra is a Past President of Sisters in Crime, and an active member of Crime Writers of Color. Connect with her via sgwong.com.
Angela Ackerman is a story coach, international speaker, and co-author of the bestselling book, The Emotion Thesaurus: A Writer’s Guide to Character Expression, and its many sequels. Available in nine languages, her guides are sourced by universities, recommended by agents and editors, and are used by novelists, screenwriters, and psychologists around the world. To date, this book collection has sold over a million copies.
Angela is also the co-founder of the popular site Writers Helping Writers®, as well as One Stop for Writers®, a portal to game-changing tools and resources that enable writers to craft powerful fiction. Find her on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
By day she is simply Rebecca Piazza --Medical Claims Adjudicator and artist. By night, she is Rebekah Raymond, Alberta writer of thriller/horror, romance, science fiction and fantasy. Raymond lives in Airdrie, AB Canada. She is wife to her once High School sweetheart and mother of a young daughter and son and many creatures. She is a strong advocate of literacy and literature exposed to all from very young ages. Rebekah is the author of the thriller Life’s Series and the disjointed comedic tale, "Sticky Paycheque".
Raymond attributes her wildly inventive plots and vivid characters to dissociative writing and the question of "what if".
Irena Karshenbaum - Moderator
Born in Kharkov, Soviet Ukraine, Irena Karshenbaum immigrated with her parents to Canada in 1979. She is best known as the founder of The Little Synagogue on the Prairie Project Society that gifted one of the last surviving prairie synagogues — the lost 1916 Montefiore Institute — to Heritage Park. She writes opinion pieces for the Calgary Herald and stories on history, heritage, travel and books that have appeared in numerous publications. She also gives talks on history and heritage preservation and organizes cultural, book and community events.
Irena’s writing has grown to include a children’s book manuscript and a fiction book manuscript, both of which she is looking to place with the right publisher. In helping to bring this event to the writing community, she wants to dispel the myths of publishing for herself and help other emerging writers by sharing this information with them.
