What can you, a storywriter, learn from a poet? Quite a lot, it turns out; images subsidize stories. What about drama? Can you watch a play or a movie and discover something about movement, posturing, the way people talk? Can you arrest readers with a few sentences or even a few words? Can you make them feel and make them think—like they do when they read flash fiction or an essay?
Join author Laura Swart—poet, novelist, playwright, and essayist—and in a supportive and dynamic environment, learn how to craft a story that reaches beyond the basic elements of fiction/nonfiction—a story that readers can feel, see, hear, and touch.
NOTE: You will need three or more pages of a rough draft to fully benefit from this course.
This class takes place in person at the Alexandra Writers’ Centre in Calgary.
