In a world where truth too often takes a backseat, the power of authentic storytelling has never been more critical and lucrative. Dive into "Crafting Truth" and uncover the profound significance of your personal narrative. In this intensive study, you will engage deeply with readings of celebrated authors like Anne Lamott, Natalie Goldberg, Brenda Miller, Suzanne Paola, Lee Gutkind, and William Zinsser. You'll embark on a 12-week journey that promises to reshape your perspective, both on the world around you and the stories you hold within.
This intensive course doesn't just teach you to write—it empowers you to see life with renewed clarity, urging you to dissect, appreciate, and chronicle the beauty and complexity of real and everyday experiences. From the first rough draft, to the art of revision, to mastering the nuances of evocative details to conducting insightful research (while keeping it all organized!), you'll hone a multifaceted set of skills that culminate in a high-quality portfolio, positioning you as a formidable contender for writing opportunities in the future. As you navigate the world of personal essays and creative nonfiction, you'll also be fostering a vibrant local writing community, sharing insights, challenges, and successes with fellow writers.
But the learning doesn't end at crafting compelling narratives. This course will also help you equip yourself with the tools to step confidently into the CanLit landscape, as the course delves into the particulars of successfully querying magazines and publishers. With the knowledge and practice from "Crafting Truth," not only will you emerge with an impressive number of your own poignant stories and essays, but you'll also possess the strategies to share them with the world, making your mark in the literary world. Join, and let your truth resonate powerfully and authentically.
This class takes place IN PERSON at the Alexandra Writers' Centre in Calgary.
