Midsommar. Hereditary. Fresh. The horror genre of film has never been so thought-provoking as it is today. Used as a vehicle to examine such complex themes from intergenerational trauma to the pitfalls of capitalism to the horrors of modern dating. In this course, we’ll cover the formula for outlining and writing a horror screenplay that will make audiences shake, gasp, and think. Students will workshop their screenplays and explore different avenues for bringing their work to the big screen.

Tina Petrick's horror screenplay, LEMPO, was optioned for a feature-length film by a prominent Canadian director’s production studio. Her credits include publication in The Globe & Mail, travel magazines, and literary journals. Her first novel released in April 2023 under the pen name Prim Pawn through a small American press and her second novel is presently on submission. She teaches as a sessional instructor at the University of Calgary Haskayne School of Business and at the Alexandra Writers’ Centre.
