putting the bones together from memory

Everyone has a story to tell and memoir is a rewarding way to do just that. In this course, students will learn how to sort fact from fiction (and be okay with it when you can't), how to arrange your words, evoke emotion, and harness the human connection to bring people into your life. Each week, we will explore the important elements of memoir. Students will learn how to engage readers, how to hone in on details, and how to decide what should stay and what should go. Students will develop their storytelling skills through in-class learning, sharing their writing and workshopping.

This class takes place in person at the Alexandra Writers Centre.

Dana Goldstein is the author of 3 memoirs. She writes in multiple genres, including middle grade and young adult fiction. Her first middle grade novel, Shift, is set to be released in August 2023, with the second book in the duology, Flow, scheduled for release in February 2024.
