The best stories are not just about an interesting story. They are about characters that readers care about deeply; about the ones that resonate with us even after we close the book. So, what are the secrets to writing strong, vivid, vibrant characters? How do we write characters we love, characters who breathe and feel alive, and characters who really get under our skin? In this session, we will learn some of these secrets, build character arcs, go through character-voice exercises, and create texture in our characters' personality.

Shenaaz Nanji is an award winning author of 11 books from picture books to novels. She thinks of herself as a squid who lives in the sea but surfaces occasionally to read or write. She holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Vermont College, USA and has presented for many years to schools & libraries across Canada and USA. She has been on the jury for Canada Council of Arts three times & Writers Union & Writers Guild of Alberta.
