it becomes vital for those of us who call ourselves poets to go beyond the veil, to understand how poetry occupies everything. hidden within us,
within the world is all the poetry we could ever need to find.
in this seminar style four week course, poets of all skill levels and abilities are invited to experience a new way of thinking about and creating
poetry. we will explore what the act and ritual of creating poetry does to us.what can we learn from other art forms and disciplines, especially
visual art and music, to help us better our own artistic practice? conversation is crucial to our time together,as are the series of exercises
arising out of our deliberations. these exercises are designed to cultivate a keen sense of aesthetic awareness.writing poetry is a physical
experience. students will be encouraged to write by hand, on paper, learning the skills of editing a piece as they go. the goal of this course is to
write a series of interwoven short poems, or a long poem. also, we will explore new ways of performing our work. this course is ideal for poets
who sense they need to broaden their horizons, who know there is much more to do and experience in their poetry.
This is an in person class taking place at the Alexandra Writers Centre Society.
