Do you love movies? Learn how to write a solid screenplay from your favourites films.

In this 6-week introductory class, you will learn the difference between a concept and a story. How to generate a winning idea, structure a strong script, develop compelling characters, and generate first and final drafts that will stand out. By the end of the course you will write a first draft. This in-person course will include in-class writing, discussion and watching film segments.

This class takes place in person at the Alexandra Writers’ Centre in Calgary.

Olyn Ozbick wrote the bestselling children’s book The Davy Rule, was shortlisted for the CBC Short Story Awards, and her stories have been published in many literary publications, anthologies and magazines. She is an experienced teacher and editor. She is currently a member of the Phoenix Screenwriters, the Alexandra Writers Centre and the Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers. She lives and works in Calgary and is writing a collection of short stories supported by the Canada Council. She also works and trains in Los Angeles and Phoenix, where she is tasked with turning her novel into a screenplay.
