We learn by understanding essence, Hans Gadamer contends, so who better to teach us than the masters? In this course, we’ll read from such cherished authors as George Orwell, James Baldwin, Joseph Conrad, Gabrielle Roy, John Howard Griffin, Lynne Sharon Schwartz, Itabari Njeri, John Steinbeck, Ryszard Kapuscinski—and perhaps even the Bard himself. We’ll examine characters, dialogue, time and place, subplots, imagery, syntax—and we’ll apply lessons learned to our own pieces-in-progress.
This class take place in person at the Alexandra Writers’ Centre in Calgary.
