Creative Writing Basics Level One will introduce students to the basics of character, plot, dialogue and setting through discussion, free fall writing, practical writing exercises and mutual feedback. Students will learn about conflict, exposition, dramatic arc, world building and how to use literary devices in creative writing. This is a class for beginners who are setting out on their creative writing journey as well as writers wishing to refresh their skills.
This is an interactive online class using the Zoom web platform.
Robin van Eck writes fiction - literary, contemporary, horror, weird and offbeat - and creative nonfiction. Most recently, her work has appeared in Solstice in Purgatory from The Seventh Terrace, WonderShift - 40th Anniversary Anthology of the Alexandra Writers Centre, Forbidden Fruit from The Seventh Terrace and Very Much Alive, stories of resilience from The Selkie UK. Her work has also appeared in LampLight Magazine, Woven Tales Press, Waiting Anthology (UofA Press, 2018), FreeFall Magazine, Freshwater Pearls Anthology (Recliner Books, 2011), Prairie Journal, Crack the Spine, Maudlin House, Minerva Rising, Alberta Views and various other online and print publications both in Canada and internationally. Her first novel, Rough, was released in November 2020, with Stonehouse Publishing and her second novel is near completion.
