This is a course with a twist. Plot is one of the most difficult parts of a story to create, so for four weeks, we’ll focus on developing plot through discussion, oral feedback, and storytelling. We’ll gain practical skills and follow some specific rules to shape a story: it must be true; it must have stakes, scenes, and an arc; it must have emotional depth; and it must have a significant theme. Then—all the world’s a stage! In a fun and supportive environment, everyone will tell their story to the class and in the telling, will discover secrets of story writing that can only be gleaned from an oral context. All are welcome, from beginner to advanced writers.
This class take place in person at the Alexandra Writers’ Centre in Calgary.
