Menopause does not mean a ‘pen(o)pause' or an end to writing. On the contrary, these two concepts may intersect. Menopause-related concepts, language, experiences, and discourse can inspire and incite. It can prompt or provoke the desire, need, or demand to share thoughts, observations, and reflections.

In this class, we lean into our individual and collective searching for ways to connect with each other about this topic. We'll work toward describing ideas and feelings we may not have words for yet.

This course focuses on creating a safe space for participants to explore, examine, and express the concept and experience of menopause in and through creative writing.

Prompted by creative writing exercises, participants will create and share (at their discretion) their menopause-focused or related creative writing, as well as writing ideas or projects, writing goals, and/or reflections generated through the creative writing process.

International Menopause Day is October 18.

This is an in person class held at the Alexandra Writers Centre Society.

Victoria Bailey has completed a Creative Writing PhD by practice program. She has a graduate certificate in Creative Writing, as well as certificates in Desktop Publishing and Technical Writing. Her writing has been included in a wide variety of anthologies, magazines and journals. She has taught in post-secondary settings and provided feedback on writing in a variety of capacities. Along with Dr. Andrea O’Reilly and Dr. Fiona Joy Green, Victoria is co-editor of the anthology Coming Into Being: Mothers on Finding and Realizing Feminism (Demeter Press, June 2023).
