One-Day Workshop | Monday, October 19, 2026

Instructor: Finnian Burnett

MEMBER PRICE: $75.00

NON-MEMBER PRICE: $100.00

Horror doesn't have to be long to be chilling. Some of the most unsettling stories are the ones that get in, get under your skin, and get out quick.

In this three-hour workshop, we'll explore writing horror in small packages using the uncanny, atmosphere, and imagery. We'll look at ways to subvert the familiar and build tension through what isn't on the page.

Whether you're new to horror or just looking to dive into creating it in smaller doses, this workshop will leave you with practical (and terrifying) skills.

This class takes place online using Zoom.

Dr. Finnian Burnett’s work explores the intersections of the human body, mental health, and gender identity. They are a recipient of the Canada Council for the Arts grant, a finalist in the 2023 CBC nonfiction prize, and a 2024 Pushcart nominee.

Their work appears in Blank Spaces Magazine, Reflex Press, The Daily Sci-Fi, CBC, and more. Their two novellas-in-flash, The Clothes Make the Man and The Price of Cookies, are available through Ad Hoc Fiction and Off Topic Publishing respectively. Finnian is represented by Stacey Kondla of The Rights Factory. Their collaborative work with author Andrew Buckley, Queer Tales of Shakespearean Proportions is represented by Terrie Wolf.

When not writing or teaching, Finnian enjoys walking, Star Trek, and cat memes. Finn can be found at www.finnburnett.com
