This workshop is for writers who feel pressure to keep up with trends, platforms, and algorithms, but want a more sustainable and human approach to building a readership. We’ll talk about what “author brand” actually means, how TikTok and other platforms shape visibility, and where AI fits into the current landscape without replacing voice or creative identity. The focus is on practical strategies for showing up consistently, choosing the right platforms, and building genuine reader connections rather than chasing every new trend. Writers will leave with a clearer sense of what matters for their own work, and a more realistic, manageable approach to platform-building.
This class takes place online using Zoom.
Alexandria (Alex) Brown is the CEO and Publisher of Rising Action Publishing and has over fifteen years of experience in marketing and creative writing. She holds a Bachelor of Communications in Public Relations, an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Gloucestershire, and is currently a Creative Writing PhD candidate at the University of Gloucestershire, where her research focuses on complex PTSD, trauma, and how we craft stories that help people feel less alone. She is the author of two traditionally published nonfiction essay collection books and has worked closely with authors on memoir and personal narrative projects, including titles that have become USA Today bestsellers. Her teaching and editorial approach is practical, craft-focused, and grounded in the belief that strong storytelling and emotional honesty can coexist on the page.
