IN PERSON Make and Take Word Art: A Hands-On Evening of Creative Play
One-Day Workshop | Sunday | May 31, 2026 | 630pm-8:30pm MT
Instructor: Kim Firmston
Tickets: by donation (see form below)
Curious about collages, zines, found poetry but not sure where to start? This workshop is the perfect place to flex your artistic flair.
Enjoy a playful evening full of joy and colours where the number one rule is: follow your curiosity.
Join multimedia creative and author Kim Firmston for a make and take workshop where you'll learn about and create:
- Word Art
- Collages
- Zines
- Found Poetry
- Redacted Poetry
- Chapbooks
Then, discover how much fun and surprising art can be when you just focus on play and let go of perfection. This includes working with pages of books that have found themselves in the banned list and turning it into another art piece that's all your own.
In this hands on workshop, you'll learn techniques on how to create collages, zine-making, found and redacted poetry, and DIY chapbooks, using everyday materials.
Whether you're already creatively inclined or someone who hasn't touched a crayon in years, you'll have fun exploring unexpected materials and remixing familiar ones. Come ready to cut, paste, scribble, tear, layer, laugh, and bring home a creative keepsake that's wonderfully your own.
Write your manifesto! Make interpretive art! Uncover hidden poetry!
All supplies provided. Bring friends or come solo. No prior experience necessary. Everyone is welcome.
This workshop is run by the Alexandra Writers' Centre Society (AWCS) in partnership with The Next Page, and is part of the InglewooDIY Festival.
This class takes place IN PERSON at The Next Page in Inglewood, Calgary (1217A 9 Ave SE, Calgary, AB T2G 0S9, map).
