Sometimes we write a piece that feels flat or shallow. We haven’t arrived at the core of it, or maybe we haven’t figured out what it means to us. Proprioceptive Writing explores the depths of what you are writing, by listening to what you are writing, and probing the question What Do I Hear? This freefall method has helped writers develop their deepest senses, and created insightful characters and plot line.  Bring your toughest work and imagine where it can go!

This class takes place IN PERSON at the Alexandra Writers Centre.

Vivian Hansen's nonfiction, fiction, and poetry has been published in a variety of Canadian journals. She has published four books of poetry: A Bitter Mood of Clouds (Frontenac House 2013) A Tincture of Sunlight (2017), Leylines of My Flesh and crawlSpace (Touchwood 2002 and 2023); chapbooks which include Never Call It Bird: the Melodies of Aids, Angel Alley: the Victims of Jack the Ripper, and Design Charette for Blakiston Park, and nonfiction in Coming Here, Being Here (Guernica 2016), (M)othering (Innana 2022), and You Look Good For Your Age, (University of Alberta Press, 2022). She teaches creative writing at the University of Calgary in the Creative Writing Certificate Program.
