IN PERSON Lit Lunch Tracy Dawson Unscripted: From Award-Winning Actress to Screenwriter to Author
Wednesday, April 1, 2026 | 11am-12:30pm MT
with Tracy Dawson
This is a FREE event and is open to the public. Everyone is welcome.
Please join Tracy Dawson, the University of Calgary's current Writer-in Residence, for a Lit Lunch chat about the twisty-turny journey of life as a multi-disciplinary creative and storyteller. From her origins in comedy to a busy acting career, to then screenwriting and a book published by HarperCollins, Tracy will talk about the power of saying "yes, and..." in your creativity, your writing, and your career choices!
This program takes place in person at the Alexandra Writers’ Centre (AWCS), on the 4th floor of cSpace Marda Loop (map).
This event will have three segments: a presentation from Tracy, an In Conversation, and a Q&A period.
Tracy Dawson is an award-winning actress, screenwriter and author. Her book, Let Me Be Frank: A Book About Women Who Dressed Like Men to Do Shit They Weren't Supposed to Do. was published in 2022 by HarperCollins. BuzzFeed called it "entertaining" and "astonishing" and actress and author Amber Tamblyn called it, "Fucking hilarious."
Tracy began her career as a mainstage performer at The Second City in Toronto. In 2009 Tracy's play, them & us, was produced by the renowned Theatre Passe Muraille in Toronto. She was both a writer and lead actor on the Canadian sitcom Call Me Fitz and won the Gemini Award and the Canadian Screen Award for Best Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her work opposite Jason Priestley on that show.
Tracy has sold and developed several of her own TV projects on both sides of the border. She teaches screenwriting at the University of Toronto’s School of Continuing Studies, has been a visiting artist at the University of Tennessee, and she is the current Writer-in-Residence at the University of Calgary where she is working on her next book.
