This beginner-friendly course helps you dive into the world of poetry with a focus on finding your unique voice. Over the weeks, you’ll explore free verse, prose poetry, and other non-traditional forms while learning key skills like imagery, metaphor, and line breaks. You’ll also build confidence through weekly writing prompts and supportive peer feedback.

This class takes place in person at the Alexandra Writers Centre Society

Tom Muir is a writer, poet and technologist who uses digital, print and spoken word mediums to explore ideas of identity and understanding. He is a co-founder and original Managing Editor of fillingStation Magazine, and has performed both solo and group work in bookstores, cafés, community halls, nightclubs and at festivals across Canada. His work has appeared in The Capilano Review, Queen Street Quarterly, and dANDelion Magazine, and in chapbook format through small press publishers such as housepress and Above/Ground Press. Outside of his day job as a Digital Strategist, he is currently working on completing a book-length long poem and a near-futurism novel, while playing board games and building robots with his family in his spare time.
