Writing poetry is a about noticing details and exercising the muscle of language. Observing the (in)significant, the profound, the breath of what we see each day that causes us to stop and think and want poetry to be inside our moments. This workshop will guide and prepare you for the craft of poetry.

This class takes place online using Zoom.

Vivian Hansen's nonfiction, fiction, and poetry has been published in a variety of Canadian journals. She has published four books of poetry: A Bitter Mood of Clouds (Frontenac House 2013) A Tincture of Sunlight (2017), Leylines of My Flesh and crawlSpace (Touchwood 2002 and 2023); chapbooks which include Never Call It Bird: the Melodies of Aids, Angel Alley: the Victims of Jack the Ripper, and Design Charette for Blakiston Park, and nonfiction in Coming Here, Being Here (Guernica 2016), (M)othering (Innana 2022), and You Look Good For Your Age, (University of Alberta Press, 2022). She teaches creative writing at the University of Calgary in the Creative Writing Certificate Program.
