One-Day Workshop

Monday, April 13, 2026 | 1pm-2:30pm MT

Instructor: Skylar Kay

AWCS Member: $30.00

Non-Member: $40.00

This is the time of year many of us think of home, all the good and bad that come with it. Warmth from the cold weather, a place to gather, a nest, a place of strife, a home serves a lot of functions, namely a place to return to. This workshop helps writers address their first home, the home they live in their whole lives--their body.

Starting with a meditative exercise to enter the body, and then writing exercises to generate new ideas, words, and internal healing, this ninety-minute micro workshop aims to help writers better understand, and translate, aspects of their bodies onto the page. Whether it be for personal writing, or writing with the aim of publication, all levels and backgrounds are invited to get better connected with their own bodies from nose to toes.

This workshop takes place IN PERSON at the Alexandra Writers' Centre.

Skylar Kay is an Alberta-based poet and grad school dropout. Her debut collection, Transcribing Moonlight was well-received, earning a shortlist nod for the League of Canadian Poets’ Gerald Lampert Memorial Award for Poetry, and won the Book Publishers Association of Alberta’s Robert Kroetsch Award for Poetry. Her second collection of poetry, There’s Magic Here Too, released in October 2025. She is the recipient of a Lieutenant Governor Emerging Artist award, and mother of a cactus.
