Enjoy the consistency, accountability, comradery, and support, of a small group for 15 weeks, all working on a memoir. This class is designed to encourage and motivate writers to work towards completion of their memoir. Through discussion, skill building, exercises, workshopping and more, this class will set you up for success.

This class is recommended for writers at any level with a strong desire to tell their personal story – whether at the idea stage or well on your way to completion – and those willing to practice group critique.

This class takes place in person at the Alexandra Writers Centre Society

Jessica Waite is a best-selling author and award-winning essayist who received Châtelaine magazine’s 2025 Doris Anderson Award for overcoming several obstacles in order to publish her memoir. The Widow’s Guide to Dead Bastards was a Globe 100 Best Book of 2024, recommended by The Washington Post, Canadian Living, Publisher’s Weekly and many other outlets. Jessica taught English internationally, has mentored incarcerated writers through the Hero’s Journey Prison-Writing Project, and has studied narrative therapy and other trauma-informed writing modalities. She advocates for the healing power of storytelling, and the connective power of truth.

Jessica lives on Treaty 7 territory in Calgary, Alberta.
