Join us for an evening of conversation with Manitoba poet and novelist, Lauren Carter, as she shares the trials and tribulations of writing her latest novel, This Has Nothing to Do With You, Freehand Books 2019.
In 2015, Lauren Carter was the AWCS Writer in Residence and during that residency, while she was helping guide those who came to see her for consultations, she was working on this book. Now she’s back, with a fully formed novel and AWCS is happy to welcome her back.

Lauren Carter is the author of four books: This Has Nothing To Do With You, a novel; Swarm, her debut novel, long-listed for CBC Canada Reads; and the poetry collections Lichen Bright and Following Sea. Her writing has been nominated for the Giller Prize, the Journey Prize, and published in Best Canadian Stories, anthologies, literary journals and periodicals throughout North America. She holds an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Guelph and has taught creative writing across Canada, including during her 2015 stint as Writer-In-Residence at the Alexandra Writers’ Centre, and online to students around the world. She grew up in Blind River, Ontario, and lived in Central Ontario before moving to Northern Manitoba. She currently lives in St. Andrews, Manitoba, a rural area near Winnipeg.
