With summer comes many subjects dear to us, and the imagery that comes with it; family time, camping, backyard barbeques, mountain hiking getaways, gardening, cycling, night swimming, summer romances, and outdoor concerts, to name a few. And of course, there’s summer nature and our interactions with it; bear sightings, mosquitos, bumble bees, and birds. How have poets captured summer on the page? What can we learn from the best poems of summer? In this class, whether you like to write in free verse, rhyme, or forms, we’ll build poetic time machines of summer to keep us warm when winter comes.

These are interactive workshops using the Zoom web conferencing platform.

Laurie Anne Fuhr is a published poet and songwriter who has instructed poetry at AWCS for five years. She is the author of the poetry collection night flying (Frontenac 2018) and hosts a poetry open mic in cooperation with Single Onion Poetry Society.
