ONLINE Pantoum Puzzle
French writer Victor Hugo introduced The West to the hypnotic Malaysian poetry form Pantoum. His desire to bring this poetic form to a larger audience is instantly clear when you write it. Its lines fit together like a puzzle and is irresistible fun. The original Malaysian Pantoum with its multiple subjects and exacting rhyme scheme is more challenging to write but also more rewarding. Westernized Pantoum tends to have one subject and often forgoes a strict rhyme scheme in favour of a looser style. In this class you can pick your preference, or write both if time permits.
This is an interactive online class using the Zoom web platform.
Jade O’Riley teaches many poetry forms and styles and developed an editing method entitled Poet’s Toolbox to help poets gain writing confidence. Since 2007 Jade has taught poetry in several venues including City of Edmonton, Poetry Festival and Stroll of Poets; she’s published fifteen poetry chapbooks featuring the poets from her classes.
