ONLINE Discover Haiku
This 3-hour class introduces the classic Japanese form of Haiku (5 – 7 – 5 syllables). Resource lists and handouts will be provided. After everyone has worked with the haiku basic principles, there will be time for sharing our 17 syllable creations. We finish by creating collaborative poems, in the style of early Japanese poets. Come with your curiosity and a willingness to explore.
This is an interactive online workshop using the Zoom web conferencing platform.
Marie Maccagno has been writing a haiku a day for over two years. This simple, yet profound, form of expression has deep roots in the careful observation of nature. Haiku is a very accessible form of poetry that can be playful and deeply expressive at the same time. Marie is the author of a memoir, “The Chocolate Pilgrim“, and she teaches a variety of writing programs designed to support writers to fall in love with their words.
