Suspense. Domestic Noir. Psychological Thrillers. These twisty tales probe the underside of human nature. Behind veneers of normalcy, secrets are kept, loved ones betrayed, and voyeurism abounds. We’ll explore crafting psychological thrillers using core elements of storytelling—character development, plotting, scene and sequel, etc.—viewed through the dark lens’ of Daphne du Maurier, Laura Lippman, Gillian Flynn and more. Loose genre expectations aside, a Big Twist (or two or three) is non-negotiable, so expect a high-concept driven course replete with writing exercises, robust discussion, and assignments to electrify your storytelling.
