Famous Poets – The Series
April 13: Leonard Cohen died an icon of both poetry and music. In this class, we lovingly remember the gifts he left behind, and gain inspiration from their unique elements to write our own poetry.
April 20: Patti Smith is known as a rock n’ roll poet, continuing to produce music, poetry, prose and Tweets that thrill her fans. Stage dice into the history of Patti’s prolific life, learn what inspires her, and see where it takes your own pen.
April 27: Jim Morrison was a wild on the page as he was on the stage. Many teens come to poetry through his shimmering portal…but was Jim a “good” poet? Together, we’ll look at a selection of his poetry and lyrics and try to answer this question, then see how a rock n’ roll attitude helps our own ink flow.

Laurie Anne Fuhr is a published poet and songwriter who has instructed poetry at AWCS for five years. She is the author of the poetry collection night flying (Frontenac 2018) and hosts a poetry open mic in cooperation with Single Onion Poetry Society.
