Events Coordinator – Immediately – 1 year term with possibility of renewal. – POSTPONED

Do you love to plan events? Are you organized and a good leader? AWCS is currently seeking a volunteer events coordinator.
The events coordinator would oversee the Social Events Committee, create an events calendar and help with all the coordination and implementation of upcoming events, new events and more.
Some of our standard events are: guest speakers/panel discussions, The 20,000 Word Weekend, Write Nites, Blue Pencil Cafes, Fall Kick Off, Annual Holiday Party, Writer in Residence Launch, cSpace Tenant Showcase Events (quarterly), Alberta Culture Days and more.

The social events committee would be responsible for planning such events as: The 20,000 Word Weekend, Write Nites, Guest Speaker/Panel Discussion events, Blue Pencil Cafés, the Fall Kick-Off, Annual Holiday Party, cSpace Tenant Showcase Events (quarterly), Alberta Culture Days, book parties and so much more.
Volunteer Auditors – One day, July or August 2020. – POSITIONS FILLED

As part of our obligation to the Societies Act of Alberta, the AWCS is obligated to perform internal financial reviews annually. These should be done by two members in good standing.
You do not need to have a financial background, or be an accountant. We need someone with a keen eye for detail who can compare invoices to expenses and payments to ensure sound financial practices.
We have one auditor and are in need of one more person to spend the day going through invoices and bank statements. The Treasurer and Executive Director will also be onsite to assist with any questions.

Casino – POSTPONED | Cowboys Casino
Perk: Free meal during your shift.
Every 18 months AWCS holds a casino. These events contribute to a significant portion of our annual operating funds and allows us to continue to offer the great programming you have come to know and love.
There are dayshifts, evening shifts and night shifts available. If you’ve never done a casino and would like more information, please contact Robin at email@example.com
When Words Collide | POSTPONED TO SUMMER 2021 – Delta Calgary South
Perk: 10% discount on your next course or workshop & a complimentary pass to some When Words Collide panels.
Every year, AWCS has a table at When Words Collide. We need some volunteers to assist manning the table throughout the weekend. Hand out brochures and talk about the AWCS to your fellow writers. If you’re already attending the conference and have a couple of hours to spare, we would appreciate your assistance.
In addition, if you have books you would like to sell at the same time, we invite you to bring them along and use the opportunity to also promote yourself.

Board of Directors – September 2020 – Min 1 year to max 4 years.

As a registered charity and non-profit organization, the AWCS is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. The board of directors is responsible for policies, planning and growth and governance of the organization. We want strong, dedicated individuals with a passion for the literary arts and for the AWCS specifically.
If you love what we do and would like the opportunity to become more involved this is your chance.

Directors at Large – We can have up to six (6) directors at large who do various tasks throughout the year from heading committees and special projects, strategic planning and more.
