Reality is Optional (RIO)

RIOCKP is a multi-group program for youth to connect with each other through writing, art and improv. We strive to foster creativity, community, and youth leadership in an accepting environment. See RIO website for more details.

Our four main groups include:

Reality Is Optional (RIO) kids’ writing club: Ages 8-17 Writing, games, improv and guests. This group meets on the second and last Monday and Thursday of the month from 5:00-6:30pm. Choose the day that works for you. Change days as your schedule changes. Come both days if you are super enthusiastic. Free with RIOCKP registration or $5 drop-in. Facilitator: Kim Firmston

 

 

Pen and Panel Cartooning Club  Grade 7-12. A constant current of fun and education, art and writing, web comics, cartoons and anime. Free with RIOCKP registration or $5 drop-in. The group meets on the first and third Thursday of each month from 5:00-6:30pm. Facilitator: Sebastien Ringuette

 

Rogue Poets Club

Learn the art of poetry and spoken word with prompts, activities, the (if you feel brave) you can perform your creations on stage at the Can You Hear Me Now? open mic and poetry slams. Grades 7-12.

Novel Writing Club

Outline, plot, finish, edit and self-publish the novel you’ve always dreamed of writing with a group of like-minded friends. Ages 17 and under.

We also have RIOCKP member only benefits.

Random Movie Night – Inspire your writing with a random movie. PG13 and under. The first Saturday of every month or there abouts. 6:00-8:30 PM (RIOCKP members only)

Dungeons and Dragons club – Battle orcs and fight wizards in this storytelling based game. Meetings the last Saturday of every month 6:00 – 9:00 PM. (RIOCKP members only)

Workshops and Special Events – These are often held either on the third Monday of the month or the second or third Saturday depending on the presenter’s schedule and other factors. (RIOCKP members only)

Special Projects – From time to time RIOCKP will work on special projects. Right now our book, Reality Is Optional Optional Guide to Writing is on the dock for January. If you are interested in writing this amazing book, contact us. (RIOCKP members only)

Fees:

  • AWCS Youth Membership (mandatory): $40
  • RIOCKP Registration: $100
  • Drop-in (core programs only): $5
