2.00 Short Story Instructor:
Susan Calder Arnold The short story from beginning to end: how to hook your reader, sustain interest and bring the story to a satisfying conclusion. Through written assignments and the study of published short stories we will examine techniques for portraying character, plot, scene, setting, dialogue and more. Students will share their work with the class and participate in group critiques. We'll wrap up with tips for marketing your short stories. Susan Calder Arnold's short fiction has been published in magazines such as Other Voices, Storyteller, and Alberta Views, and broadcast on CBC Radio's Alberta Anthology. Her poetry has appeared in The Prairie Journal and The Sliver Boomers Anthology. She has taught fiction workshops at the Alexandra Writers' Centre Society and taken courses at the Banff Centre for the Arts, the Sage Hill Writing Experience, and UBC's Booming Ground. A past president of the AWCS, she is currently marketing her first novel and working on her second mystery suspense novel set in Calgary.
